Vehicle Guide Compact SUV Rentals

A compact SUV will almost always be a 4 door vehicle.

Car rental companies differ in their auto make and model partners and carry a wide variety of vehicles. This type of vehicle is becoming less common in rental fleets, as cars but for the companies that do carry them, they may have both 2 and 4 wheel-drive compact SUV rentals and it's rare that they will guarantee one or the other. If you specifically want a compact SUV that's 4 wheel drive, I recommend calling the rental car location directly to see if that's a feature that can be guaranteed for you.|

Some Common Examples of Makes/Models Include

Ford Edge

Jeep Compass

Ford Escape

Seating Capacity

The seating capacity for a compact SUV is 5. Seat belts for 5 passengers are provided - 2 in the front, 3 in the back.

Average Luggage Capacity

The average luggage capacity for a compact sport utility vehicle is

1 Large 3 Medium 2 Small -- pieces of luggage

I find the average luggage capacity listed on most car rental comapany sites is lower ... certainly lower than what I can pack into a vehicle! If you have luggage capacity concerns, I recommend either finding a friend with the same type of vehicle, or visiting a local car dealership to actually view the interior of a compact SUV, so that you'll know if it will meet your luggage demands.

Usual Features

Common standard features of this type of rental vehicle include:

AM/FM stereo/Cassette

CD Player

Air Conditioning Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Locks

Anti-Lock Brakes

Air Bags

Cruise Control

Intermittant Wipers

Tilt Steering Wheel

Average Fuel Economy

The average amount given for gas mileage on a compact SUV is 22 mpg

Note: In general categories, car rental companies can rarely guarantee a make or model. That’s why you’ll usually see a make/model example with a notation of …or similar. That means you will get either that vehicle or something of similar size and with similar features.
