How to Save Money on Long Term Car Rentals

I want to give you some tips to save money on long term car rentals.

The first tip is to look for monthly car rental specials that are advertised by the car rental companies. If you go to their websites you will often see a tab for deals or specials, and they often have their best or current offers advertised right on the home page.

When you're looking to get a cheaper rate on long term car rentals, you'll want to do some research to make sure that that special or deal that you may see advertised will work with the rental that you want to do.

Some monthly car rental deals can be location specific. The offer may only be available at an airport car rental, some only at off airport or neighborhood locations. Many long term specials will only be available in certain cities or at participating locations in certain states. Most monthly car rental deals will only be available from corporate owned car rental locations and not from individually owned and operated franchisee locations.

Make sure to verify exactly what is required to qualify for a long term rental rate for that particular car rental company. To qualify as a monthly rental you are usually required to keep the vehicle more than 29 days, but often the monthly car rental deals will only apply if the rental is at least 2 months in length. Make sure to keep that in mind. And remember that if you see a special for a certain amount of money off a long term rental rate, that amount of money usually only applies once; not for each month of the rental. Make sure to check the specifics of a long term rental as it applies to your contract. Some companies will require that you return the vehicle for inspection every month, while some do not have this requirement.

Many monthly car rental deals may be restricted to certain size or classes of vehicles. Make sure that your vehicle preference is included.

Lastly, make sure to carefully read all terms and conditions listed with any specials that you're looking to book. Look for any blackout dates, advanced booking requirements and the expiration date. Make sure to determine if the expiration date of the special is the date the vehicle must be picked up by, or if it is the date the vehicle must be returned by.

Remember, if you can't find a long term car rental special to meet your needs, make sure to check to see if you qualify for a car rental discount code from an association or professional membership that will help lower your rate. And, as always, do a lot of comparison shopping and book your rental as far in advance as you can!
