I went to Wikipedia to search company history Dollar auto rental. There wasn't a lot of information, but here's what I found.
Dollar Rent a Car was founded in 1966 by Henry Caruso in Los Angeles, California. In 1990 it was acquired by Chrysler. It was originally called Dollar a Day Rent A Car because it had a standardized daily rate of one dollar for sedans.
By 1968, Dollar rental car's rates were raised to keep competitive prices while maintaining competition with other rental car companies.
