I'm looking for advice on a cheap one way rental. I'm looking to pick up a rental car in San Francisco and drive to Seattle. I'll be spending about a week there and then flying home from Seattle. All of the car rental companies that I'm checking are charging over $100 a day. This is ridiculous! Is there any way I can get a cheaper rate for a rental car one way?
While it's rare to ever actually find a cheap one way rental (you can sometimes find seasonal one way specials when car rental companies are moving their fleets from one part of the country to another), in your situation, there is a way that you can lower your costs and perhaps find a cheap one way car rental... or at least cheaper!!!
Assuming that you are picking up the rental car and driving directly to Seattle you can lower the one way fee by making this a seperate rental. The charges of over $100 a day are charged on a one way rental for every day that you have the car.
For a cheap one way rental, I would suggest that you pick up in San Francisco and drop off in Seattle within a 24 hour period. That way you'll only be charged a one-way fee for the 1 day. Then rent a seperate vehicle for the remainder of your rental in Seattle (at a cheaper rate per day). It's a little more hassle and a little more paperwork, but the savings should make up for the inconvenience!!
Hope this helps and luck with your rental!
