I'm not sure if it is even possible to find a car rental for a month in NYC for under $800 a
month. Especially when you factor in taxes and fees. Car Rental in New York city is usually quite expensive when compared with other cities.
You really need to search carefully for mulitiple companies for the dates and times you're looking for and compare as many companies as possible.

I would suggest first going to a site that will allow you to compare multiple car rental companies at once (like Travelocity, RentalCars.com, Priceline, Orbitz, etc) and check prices for monthly car rental in NYC for the specific dates that you're looking at for pickup and return. If you're flexible with time, try researching the difference between 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 day rates.
You must also check a variety of locations... both airport and off airport.
I would suggest checking rates at 3 airport locations -- JFK, LGA and EWR as well as checking prices at a Manhattan location and one in Jersey City (if the rental company has a location there). It's my experience that JFK and LGA are usually the cheapest option for a monthly car rental in NYC, but it's always best to check as many options as possible in order to determine the cheapest rate available.
Once you narrow down the cheapest car rental companies, you should try going to their websites directly and again checking rates for a car rental for a month in NYC, using any Car Rental Discount Codes for car rental that you may have and also checking the website for any monthly car rental deals or long term car rental specials that may be available.
Make sure to check the terms and conditions of any specials to see if they would be valid at your pickup location (many specials are not accepted in the New York City area).
